In May of 2012 there was a controversial vote in North Carolina on a ballot measure named Amendment 1. It was attempting to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman in the state's constitution amongst the many other restrictions it would put on seniors, women and common-law relationships. We couldn't sit idly by as the rights of our friends and family were voted away. So we set out to create something that would educate and provoke conversation in North Carolina about the realities of Amendment 1, hoping we could change a few minds.
Buzzfeed, PBS, Think Progress, and AgencySpy and many others picked up the art and used it as basis for feature stories and discussion. On Twitter, Every1Against1 was re-tweeted by anonymous, NOH8 and Chely Wright. Every image shared raised the level of awareness about Amendment 1 and helped offer a little support to the thousands of other individuals and organizations fighting for equal rights in North Carolina.
